Job Description
Would you like to help build a sustainable future together with the international scientific community? We are seeking a skilled Head of Legal Services to oversee the legal affairs and document management at LUT University. This role offers an interesting combination of responsibilities including legal service organization, managerial work, and practical legal tasks. In this position, you will influence the operations of LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences and support their key objectives from a legal perspective. What will you do? As Head of Legal Services, you will lead a legal team of four specialists and a document services team of three specialists, creating conditions for their success and long-term development. You will ensure that legal services effectively support both operational activities and strategic goals of the universities. Your work will be diverse. You will advise experts, participate in negotiations, review various contracts, and support organizational actors with legal questions. One day you might handle research-related contract issues, another you might develop legal procedures or prepare legal documents for decision-making. Key tasks include legal support for research activities, contract law, administrative law issues, and legal matters related to public procurement. You will also be responsible for case management and document archiving. You will work closely with university management, researchers, experts, and other internal stakeholders. You will report to the Director, Governance and Risk Management. What do we expect from you? The role requires a master's degree in law (OTM/OTK) and solid experience in managing legal affairs within organizations. Experience in leading experts or managerial roles is an advantage. We value the ability to develop services and procedures in a long-term perspective. You are a collaborative and solution-oriented expert who can see broad entities and identify relevant legal issues for the organization. You can work confidently with management, experts, and other stakeholders, fostering cooperation among different actors. A strong service attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to implement tasks practically are essential. You will succeed if you enjoy supporting experts, developing services, and solving legal issues within a diverse university environment. Proficiency in Finnish and English, both spoken and written, is essential in our international work environment. What do we offer? The role combines managerial work, legal expertise, and service development, with visible impacts on the daily operations of LUT universities. Your primary location can be either the Lahti or Lappeenranta campus. LUT University employs a hybrid work model combining remote work and regular campus presence. Travel between campuses is required. The working hours follow the system used by other experts and support staff, with a weekly working time of 36 hours and 15 minutes. Flexible working hours support work-life balance. The salary is based on the university salary system at levels 11–12, approximately €5,400–€6,400 per month depending on experience and skills. A six-month probation period applies. You can start in the new role as agreed, during the autumn.
