Job Description
We are looking for a friendly and positive attitude early childhood education teacher for our small and homely daycare. The position initially focuses on a group of 3-5-year-old children, with 18 children at the start of the term, along with two early childhood education teachers, a child caregiver, and a group assistant part-time. The employment is permanent, but a fixed-term contract is also possible. We welcome applicants who are completing their studies in the field. Our daycare has four groups for children aged 0-5 years. Upstairs, there are two groups for 3-5-year-olds, Lemmikit and Esikot. Downstairs, there are two groups for children under 3 years, Neilikat and Kielot, in our "small children’s kingdom." Our unit also has support staff to facilitate smooth small group work and daily activities across different groups, as well as to support the unit’s pedagogical quality. As an early childhood education teacher, you will be responsible for planning and implementing early childhood education for your group in collaboration with your team and other teachers and child caregivers in the unit. An important part of your work is also cooperation with guardians, as well as evaluating and developing activities. In collaboration with other early childhood education staff, you will ensure the development of the entire unit’s pedagogy in accordance with the curriculum. The employee must be able to work with both under and over three-year-old children as needed during the employment. We are an open and positive work community that wants to move forward boldly both pedagogically and as a workplace. We believe that humor, perseverance, and ingenuity support us in everyday situations. We work closely together, especially in the mornings and afternoons. The unit’s shared themes and celebrations are important to us. Every other week, a specialist in early childhood education and a language and culture teacher participate in our daily activities. With their help and support, we plan and implement pedagogy suitable for children’s groups. You will also have support from the head of the early childhood education unit, the deputy head, and the city’s mentoring program, which helps you become familiar with Espoo’s early childhood education and recognize your strengths and skills. Our activities are strongly guided by language awareness: we utilize images purposefully and support children’s language development consistently and in various everyday interaction situations. It is important for us that every child is heard and understood and can express themselves in their own way. Our daycare emphasizes personal attention to each child, positive pedagogy, and a sense of humor. Our staff shares a strong understanding of the significance of early childhood education work and a desire to provide high-quality early childhood education. We enjoy our work, and a cheerful atmosphere and a relaxed pace are our shared values. Time for planning, evaluation, and development of activities is included in the working hours. Please contact us for more information about our activities and Soukankuja Daycare! Workplace name and address: Soukankuja Daycare, Soukankuja 1, 02360 Espoo Working hours: 38 hours 15 minutes/week The position is permanent starting from September 14, 2026, or by agreement. Qualification requirement: Qualification in accordance with the Finnish Act on Early Childhood Education (540/2018). At least a Bachelor’s degree in education, including early childhood education teacher training, or a degree in social and health care (early childhood education). We also consider applicants who are about to graduate in early childhood education. We require a sensitive approach that considers each child's individual needs, flexibility in different situations, good interaction and teamwork skills, and proficiency in spoken and written Finnish. You are a team player with the ability to lead and resolve challenges constructively. We expect you to actively want to develop your work. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract as required by the Criminal Records Act (6.2 §). The Infectious Diseases Act requires those working with preschool children to clarify the risk of tuberculosis transmission.
