Main purpose of the role: The British Embassy in Helsinki is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Communications Intern for a fixed-term position for 3 months. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, creative, and highly motivated individual to play a role in delivering the Embassy's communications strategy and wider objectives. To succeed in this role, you should be passionate about communications, UK culture and values and be able to support the Embassy's Communications and Public Diplomacy Team with social media and event coordination. You do not need expertise in every aspect of the role, what matters is that you bring energy, good humour, and some prior work experience in a relevant field. During your internship you will have the chance to be involved in a variety of high-profile events, while gaining hands-on experience in communications and public diplomacy work in a supportive, international environment. Role and Responsibilities: - Digital Content Creation (40%): You will work closely with the Communications Officer and Public Diplomacy Officer to create engaging digital content for the Embassy's social media platforms. - Communication Materials (10%): You will help the Communications team draft and edit communications materials. - Public Diplomacy and Cultural Events (20%): You will assist the Public Diplomacy Officer in planning and delivering public diplomacy and cultural events. - Visits and Meetings (20%): You will have the possibility to assist in organizing high-level visits, various meetings, and events. - Media Reporting (5%): You will monitor the Finnish media landscape and social media landscape and report back to the Team. - Provide Support in Other Tasks as Required (5%): When needed, you will support the Embassy in other occasional ad hoc tasks. Our ideal candidate shows: - Fluent written and spoken English and Finnish (C1 level) - A relevant higher education degree (e.g. master's or applied sciences) either recently completed or nearing completion in Communications, International Relations, Political Sciences, Journalism or Marketing - Proven experience with social media and digital platforms; experience in content creation is an asset - Basic skills in photography and videography, especially in video editing - Basic understanding of current affairs and interest in foreign policy - Collaborative mindset and the ability to work flexibly, deliver at pace, and stay resilient under pressure - Strong organisational and time management skills Nice to have: - Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva - Experience in international or multicultural environments or in public relations and communications - Familiarity with the UK, UK politics and culture Required behaviours: Delivering at Pace, Seeing the Big Picture Other benefits and conditions of employment: This is a full-time, 36.25 hours per week, fixed-term 3-months position. From time to time, staff may be required to work beyond their conditioned hours during the week or at weekends to support events. In such cases, staff are entitled to time off in lieu (TOIL). All TOIL must be approved in advance. The appointment is subject to professional background check and security clearance. The start date mentioned in the advert is indicative only. The appointment may commence earlier or later depending several factors. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Finland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Finnish employment law and FCDO guidance for Country Based Staff. Staff at the British Embassy Helsinki who are not subject to Finnish income tax (i.e. non-Finnish nationals) have a reference amount deducted from their gross salary. This abatement reflects the local tax that would otherwise apply, ensuring consistent net pay across roles. Pension and unemployment contributions are deducted for all staff. Salary payments are reported to the Finnish Income Register in line with legal requirements. Learning and development opportunities: The British Embassy in Helsinki has a strong ethos of Learning and Development, including our L&D Week. In addition, there will be many opportunities to attend external seminars and events on relevant issues. This is in addition to induction programmes offered to all Embassy staff. Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Finland and be prepared to ensure that this right remains valid throughout the scope of the contract.
