We are seeking a development-oriented special education teacher for a fixed-term position in our team. The selected candidate is expected to have a strong consultative approach and collaborate with teachers across different grade levels. The role involves developing and managing the so-called Steppi-class. The Steppi-class acts as a link between general and special groups. The teacher will also have individual students in the group periodically. Kaivokselan School is a primary school in western Vantaa with approximately 600 students. The old mining environment and lush nature are part of our learning environment. The school is easily accessible by public transport from various directions in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Most students come from the Kaivokselan and Myyrmäki areas. Our school community is multilingual and multicultural. The school also has extensive experience in English-language instruction. Our adult community includes about 30 classroom teachers, 12 special education teachers, two Finnish as a second language teachers, three resource teachers, a preparatory class teacher, and 16 aides/student care workers. We aim to meet students’ and guardians’ needs by developing language awareness, flexible individual instruction, and promoting everyone’s participation. Like other schools in Vantaa, we have excellent opportunities for the versatile use of educational technology. Our classroom teachers work closely with other teachers and staff. Our school’s culture is based on team teaching and community development. Every member of the staff participates in school development through weekly team meetings.
