Job Description
Do you want to build a sustainable future together with the international scientific community? We are looking for a Head of Legal Services to be responsible for the overall legal affairs and document management of LUT universities. This position offers an interesting combination of responsibility for organizing legal services, supervisory work, and practical law. In this role, you will have a broad impact on the operations of LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences and support their key goals from a legal services perspective. What do you do in your work? As Head of Legal Services, you lead a legal team of four specialists and a document services team of three specialists and create the conditions for their success in everyday life and for the long-term development of operations. You ensure that legal services effectively support both daily operational activities and the strategic goals of the universities. Your work is diverse and varied. In your daily life, you spar with specialists, participate in negotiations, comment on various agreements, and support various actors in the organization in legal matters. One day you solve contract issues related to research activities, another day you develop the operating methods of legal services or participate in the legal preparation needed to support the organization's decision-making. The key tasks of legal services are legal support for research activities, contract law matters, administrative law issues, and legal matters related to public procurement. You are also responsible for the overall records management and document archiving. You work in close cooperation with the management of the universities, researchers, specialists, and other internal stakeholders. In this position, you report to the Director, Governance and Risk Management. What we expect from you In the position, we require a Master's degree in law (OTM/OTK) and strong experience in handling the legal affairs of organizations. It is an advantage if you have experience in leading specialists or in supervisory positions. We hope for the ability to develop services and operating methods in a long-term manner. You are a collaborative and solution-oriented expert who grasps broad entities and can identify the legal issues essential for the organization's operations. You are able to act naturally as support for management, specialists, and other stakeholders and build cooperation between different actors. We require a strong service attitude, excellent interaction and communication skills, and the ability to move things forward in a practical manner. You will succeed in the position if you enjoy supporting specialists, developing services, and solving legal issues as part of a diverse university environment. In our international work environment, excellent oral and written proficiency in Finnish and English is a necessity. The work offers the opportunity to combine supervisory work, legal expertise, and service development in a position whose effects are visible in the everyday life of LUT universities. Your main place of business can be either the Lahti or Lappeenranta campus. At LUT universities, we use a hybrid work model that combines remote work and regular work on campuses. The work includes travel between campuses. The position follows the working time system of other specialist and support staff, the weekly working time is 36 hours and 15 minutes. We have flexible working hours that support the reconciliation of work and other life. Salary is determined according to the university salary system for demand level 11–12 and, depending on experience and skills, is approximately 5,400–6,400 euros per month at the start of the employment relationship. A six-month probationary period applies to the employment relationship. In your new position, you can start by agreement during the autumn.
