Job Description
I am a 21-year-old student at Aalto University and use an electric wheelchair. I lead an active student life, so if you are looking for diverse work where no two days are exactly the same, keep reading! My previous assistant, who has been doing daily shifts, will start studying in the fall, so I am looking for new team members primarily for daily daytime shifts. Due to my studies, work, hobbies, and other activities, my schedule varies a lot, so your shifts will also be diverse. Shifts are mainly scheduled on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., but sometimes also in the evenings and on weekends. Occasionally, a shift may start before 8 a.m., but very rarely :D. Most shifts last about 8 hours, but some of my assistants prefer longer shifts, and I try to accommodate such requests whenever possible. Work schedules are made monthly, and while creating them, I try to consider each assistant’s preferences regarding shift timing and days off. I value openness and mutual flexibility. I have been an employer to my assistants for four years and have never had to schedule a shift on a day or time they requested as free. I also hope my assistants understand that young people’s schedules can change quickly, which may sometimes affect shifts. Your tasks include acting as my hands and feet and assisting in various daily situations. During shifts, activities may include anything typical for someone my age. I also need help with bathroom visits and bathing. Workdays usually start and end at my home near Lauttasaari metro station. Sometimes, shifts may start or end elsewhere, as my weekdays are active and mobile. I travel often with friends and for hobbies, so overnight trips within Finland or abroad may also be part of the work if you wish. A driver’s license is not necessarily required, as I mainly use public transport or taxis. However, it’s a plus for some trips, so please mention in your application if you have a driver’s license. The job is ideal for an energetic adult interested in working with a young adult. Fluency in Finnish is required. No prior experience or training is necessary, but I hope my assistant will be confident in handling varied days, able to follow given instructions, and willing to integrate naturally into a young adult’s daily life with friends and activities. The job also requires patience for moments of boredom, as there are times when active assistance is not needed constantly, and other times when we run from place to place all day. Days are very different from each other. Physical fitness is needed for transfers from wheelchair to bed or toilet, but no prior training is required as I will provide instruction. I am primarily looking for two assistants, each working about 80 hours per month, or alternatively, one full-time assistant. Please specify whether you are interested in approximately 80 hours/month or only full-time work. The job begins at the end of August once a suitable candidate is found. The employment contract will be in writing, and the salary will be paid by the Central Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County based on hours worked, twice a month. The gross hourly wage without experience bonus is €13.89, plus evening, night, and weekend allowances according to working hours. The employment follows the collective agreement of the HETA union. Above all, I am looking for an assistant with whom everyday life feels natural for both. The most important aspects are good personal chemistry, open communication, and a relaxed approach to working together. If you feel this position is right for you, please send your application to my email: ellakarolina.nissinen@gmail.com. Make your application personal—what matters most to me is finding someone whose energy aligns with mine! :) I will invite candidates for interviews during the application period.
