Job Description
We are seeking a museum director for the Rauma Maritime Museum. The Rauma Maritime Museum is a specialized museum that tells the story of the coastal city’s existence: the sea and shipping. The museum preserves, presents, and researches Rauma’s shipbuilding, maritime education, and the lives of sailors both at sea and ashore. The museum’s operations are managed by the Rauma Maritime Museum Foundation Ltd. We are looking for a bold, skilled, and creative individual to join our team as museum director. As museum director, you will lead the operations of the Rauma Maritime Museum in collaboration with the foundation’s board. You will serve as the supervisor for six staff members and as the representative of the Rauma Maritime Museum Foundation. You will develop the museum’s activities with vision and be responsible for its finances and administration. You will participate in various collaboration networks and actively promote the museum’s public relations and fundraising. You are proactive, resourceful, and ready to take on the diverse tasks of a small museum. Together with the staff, you will participate in exhibition and event production, public engagement, marketing, and communications. We require a relevant higher university degree and basic studies in museology. Previous experience in museum work, practical leadership and management skills, and financial expertise are valued. You should have fluent Finnish and English language skills, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills. Additional language skills, knowledge of Finnish maritime history, and domestic and international networks are considered advantages. The position is permanent and can start as soon as possible according to the agreement. Primary workplace: Rauma Maritime Museum, Kalliokatu 34, 26100 Rauma. Partial remote work within Finland is possible. Working hours: Full-time, with some evening and weekend work. Probation period: 6 months. Salary: €3,700–4,300 per month, depending on experience and skills. We also offer a phone and wellness benefit, as well as occupational health services. For more information about the position, contact Museum Director Anna Meronen at 040 5664839, on Monday, July 6, from 13:00 to 15:00, and Wednesday, July 8, from 10:00 to 11:30. Please send your written application and CV by email no later than August 7, 2026, to the chair of the Rauma Maritime Museum Foundation’s board, Timo Metsäkallas, at t.metsakallas@gmail.com. First-round interviews are planned for August 17 and 19, with second-round interviews on August 24.
