Job Description

Hello ophthalmologist, welcome to the Solo Health medical team! We value expertise and collegiality. We aim to provide an environment where your skills are appreciated. We are seeking an ophthalmologist for Vaasa Central Hospital in the Ostrobothnia region for the period from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2028. Work unit and tasks The ophthalmology unit at Vaasa Central Hospital handles both outpatient and day surgery activities. The outpatient clinic examines and treats adult and pediatric patients referred with various eye conditions. The unit also maintains an on-call eye emergency service. The doctor works specifically in the ophthalmology outpatient clinic; work in the day surgery unit is not included. The specialist doctor is expected to have the ability and expertise to investigate, diagnose, and treat both common and rare eye diseases requiring specialized care. Most patients are seen for initial consultations, but some are for follow-up of chronic eye conditions. Appointments for initial and follow-up visits are 30 minutes. The doctor’s duties include working in the outpatient clinic, which involves elective and emergency minor procedures (e.g., laser treatment, Ozurdex implants), as well as working in the emergency clinic. The role also includes consulting with other healthcare staff as needed. Surgical procedures (e.g., cataract surgeries, corneal surgeries, skin cancer removals) are not part of the job. Trained nurses in the unit perform vitreous injections; they carry out these procedures, but the doctor provides instructions and consultations as needed. The work is independent, but each employee is part of a multidisciplinary team. In addition to nurses, an optometrist works in the unit. The hospital uses the LifeCare patient information system.
