Director of the Education Sector - Porin kaupunki - Pori, Finland

As our current sector director approaches retirement, we are seeking an experienced and visionary director of the education sector who understands the importance of education for the city's vitality, well-being, and future. In this role, you will create conditions for learning, well-being, and active living for residents—from early childhood education to schools, culture, sports, and youth work. As the education director, you will play a central role in shaping what Pori will be today and in the future. The education director is responsible for an organization of approximately 1,800 employees and a budget of about 180 million euros. You will lead the education sector as a whole, overseeing its strategy, operational results, and service development. The role includes early childhood education, basic and upper secondary education, as well as culture, sports, and youth services, which are vital for the city's vitality and residents' well-being. You will be a member of the city management team, chair the education sector management team, and serve as the rapporteur for two committees. You will lead key service unit managers within the sector and ensure that leadership is unified, goal-oriented, and effective. We are looking for a person capable of managing broad entities and advancing initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders. The qualification requirement for the position is a higher university degree obtained from a university as specified in the University Degree Ordinance (464/1998) §2. To succeed in this role, you should have: - Strong and diverse experience in managerial and leadership roles - Experience in strategic development and change management - Proven ability to lead large entities, personnel, and finances - Ability to manage significant financial operations - Good interaction, communication, and negotiation skills - Readiness to operate within a political decision-making environment We value broad understanding of the education sector and interest in the development of Pori. In the near future, Pori will undertake significant space projects related to the renovation of the main library and youth center, as well as the construction of indoor sports and event facilities.
