Teacher for Preparatory Education - Suomussalmen kunta - Suomussalmi, Finland

The Municipality of Suomussalmi is seeking a fixed-term teacher for preparatory education to start on August 11, 2026, and end on July 31, 2027. The position is administratively located at Karhulanvaara School, where teaching also takes place. The preparatory education teacher collaborates closely with staff from the municipality's other school, Ruukinkangas School, particularly in the integration of middle school-aged students. The students in preparatory education are primarily children who have recently immigrated and do not yet speak Finnish. The curriculum for preparatory education is based on the national curriculum for basic education prepared by the Finnish National Agency for Education, from which a local curriculum approved by the education provider in Suomussalmi has been derived. We expect applicants to have a qualified teacher's degree. In the absence of qualified applicants, we will consider other education professionals and those studying to become class teachers or special education teachers. Experience in preparatory education or teaching immigrant students, as well as possible S2 studies, will be considered an advantage. Teaching duties are based on the class teacher's role (teaching hours 24). Qualifications for teaching positions are determined according to Government Decree No. 986/98 on the qualifications of education personnel. We also value good teamwork skills, familiarity with modern teaching tools and methods, and a developmental approach. Salary and employment terms are governed by the municipal collective agreement for the education sector (OVTES) regulations concerning class teachers. The position is filled on a five-month probation period. The selected candidate must provide an approved medical certificate of health and a criminal record extract in accordance with law 504/2002 before starting the position.
