Early Childhood Educator, Daycare Aurinkokello, Keski-Pasila - Helsingin kaupunki - Helsinki, Finland

We are looking for a Saami-speaking early childhood educator for Aurinkokello! The new daycare in Central-Pasila started operations in August 2025. We are opening a new unit gradually, and now we are hiring a teacher for the Northern Saami group. The group is a sibling group with children aged 2-6 years and two educators. The group follows both the Helsinki early childhood education plan and the Saami early childhood education plan. The goal of Saami-language early childhood education is to grow children into independent, responsible, and social individuals and to support their language skills development. Children’s language skills become strong in both languages when they participate in a language immersion program throughout their education. The preschool children in the group regularly cooperate with the Finnish-speaking preschool group and the Saami class at Pasilan primary school. Aurinkokello operates in the same building as Pasilan primary school, enabling excellent cooperation and shared use of facilities. The daycare is very accessible: trams, buses, trains, and bike paths serve us excellently! We expect you to demonstrate good basic pedagogy and sensitive interaction with children. You should understand the importance of play in child development and learning, recognize that play is an adult’s task, and utilize playfulness in daily situations. The facilities and tools are designed to be inviting for play, and we expect you to take responsibility for continuously modifying and developing the play environment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and we hope you are motivated and willing to develop activities in a new environment and evolving culture. You should be open to experimenting and proposing changes to improve daily life for children and adults. As a daycare worker, you will plan and implement pedagogically focused care, upbringing, and education together with other staff, according to the unit’s operational plan, Helsinki’s early childhood education plan, preschool plan, and the child’s early childhood education plan. You will be responsible for children’s needs in daily activities and promote their health and well-being. Qualifications: We require a degree in early childhood education, social and health care, or a comparable relevant qualification, including or supplemented with extensive studies in child care, upbringing, and education (varhaiskasvatuslaki 540/2018, 28 §, asetus 753/2018 3 § and 4 §). Recognition of foreign qualifications by the Finnish National Agency for Education is also accepted. Good oral and written skills in Finnish and Northern Saami are required. The selected person must present a valid criminal background check for working with children (504/2002). A tuberculosis clearance for working with underage children will be checked (infectious disease law 55 §).
