Job Description
The City of Kotka's Environmental Services is recruiting for a permanent Environmental Inspector position starting from September 1, 2026. The environmental protection team in Kotka consists of seven specialists. The City of Kotka also performs environmental protection duties for the municipality of Pyhtää based on a contract, with the office located in Kotka. The responsibilities of the Environmental Inspector include monitoring wastewater treatment in dispersed settlements and processing exemption applications related to water supply and sewerage networks under the Water Supply Act. The Inspector also prepares statements related to environmental permits and various EIA procedures for industry, energy production, agriculture, and chemical storage and handling. The role involves supervising registered energy production facilities and facilities using chemicals. The Inspector participates in providing advice and guidance to residents and companies, as well as handling various inquiries. Other duties related to environmental protection may also be assigned. The qualification requirement is a suitable higher university degree. Previous experience in municipal environmental protection duties and knowledge of relevant legislation are considered an advantage. Good interaction, communication, and ICT skills are essential. The position requires an initiative-taking and independent work attitude, flexibility, teamwork skills, customer service orientation, and readiness for fieldwork. Proficiency in Finnish is required; knowledge of English is an advantage. A valid driving license (Class B) is necessary. The environmental protection department has cars available for work, primarily for official use, but the ability to use a personal car if needed is required. Part of the week can be worked remotely. The position follows the municipal technical staff's collective agreement, with a starting salary of €4,072.61/month. Experience-based allowances are according to the collective agreement, and there is also a personal performance bonus. The position has a six-month probation period.
