Substitute for Practical Nurse, Tyks Cancer Ward, Turku - Varsinais-Suomen hyvinvointialue - Turku, Finland

We are a 24-bed, around-the-clock and year-round inpatient ward at Tyks T-hospital. We care for adult cancer patients (excluding those with lung, gynecological, and blood cancers, who are treated in their own specialties). Our most common treatments are medication (including chemotherapy), radiotherapy, and combination therapy. The ward also performs radioiodine treatments for patients with thyroid carcinoma. Additionally, we provide follow-up care for stem cell transplants performed in the hematology ward for cancer patients. Patients are also treated for infections, for research purposes, for symptom relief procedures, pain management, and palliative care. The practical nurse’s role on the cancer ward includes providing high-quality basic care, managing various drains, catheters, and stomas, caring for tracheostomized patients, ensuring proper nutrition (including PEG nutrition), and wound care. The position is a temporary replacement from 31.8.2026 to 3.1.2027. Our work is challenging and begins with a two-week orientation, during which you will work alongside a fellow practical nurse. After that, you will work independently but always have colleagues for support. The inpatient ward work involves three-shift work, so readiness for night shifts is required. The minimum qualification for the position is a social and health care professional basic degree (practical nurse) or an earlier school-level qualification in the field. Good Finnish language skills are required. Previous hospital work experience and Swedish language skills are considered an advantage.
