Job Description
As a lecturer at the Maritime Technology program, you will teach and supervise maritime students in mechanical engineering subjects and provide further training for professionals already working in the field. Teaching utilizes our modern engine room simulator and laboratory. Our students come from around the world, offering an international environment. The language of instruction is English. We emphasize the following: You have broad knowledge of mechanical engineering and practical experience. It is advantageous if you are willing to learn and develop new teaching methods. You have good contacts with industry. Experience in the marine industry is considered a merit, as are skills in Swedish and Finnish. We also value a willingness to continue your professional development. We are looking for someone who has: - a chief engineer or chief engineer’s certification (STCW A-III/2) - a suitable doctoral degree or higher university degree - previous experience as a teacher, trainer, or instructor - experience working in workshop and laboratory environments - good command of Swedish and English, both spoken and written - interest in shipping and a desire to develop maritime engineering education. An experienced diploma engineer with a background in the marine industry may also be considered for the position. The recruitment process may include planning and conducting a teaching demonstration. As a teacher at Novia, you are expected to have at least three years of work experience equivalent to a degree. Teachers at Novia are expected to have completed pedagogical studies totaling 60 credits or 35 study weeks. If you have not completed pedagogical studies, you may do so alongside your work within three years of employment. Salary is according to the Collective Agreement for Universities of Applied Sciences and internal directives. The position includes a probation period of six months. With the candidate’s consent, a limited security clearance may be conducted. Employment from 3 August 2026 or by agreement. The employment is 70 - 100% of full-time work. Location Turku.
