Job Description
The Crime Technical Laboratory (RTL) is an expert unit of the National Bureau of Investigation, serving all police units in Finland. RTL produces highly comprehensive and quality forensic investigations to support criminal investigations and the justice system. RTL's activities are multidisciplinary and unique in Finland, supported by a broad international network of forensic laboratories. RTL is unique in Finland, and similar materials and research opportunities are not available elsewhere. This work offers a real opportunity to contribute to impactful development work for the entire country. RTL handles very diverse data in its operations, and analyzing this data and reporting the results creates a continuous need for development. RTL is now seeking a forensic statistician to strengthen its Research and Development activities. The role involves using statistical science, data science, and machine learning to innovate and develop methods for analyzing, processing, and reporting data. The recruitment aims to enhance RTL's capabilities in developing and adopting modern statistical and machine learning methods. The work will be supported and guided by an experienced colleague in forensic statistics. Key responsibilities: - Developing new statistical methods in collaboration with experts - Developing probability-based reporting methods - Developing and launching data processing applications for experts - Producing various data analyses, for example, for method validation and scientific research - Scientifically developing new methods and engaging in international collaboration - Training experts.
