Welcome to Pukinmäki to implement early childhood education in Swedish! We are looking for an enthusiastic, development-oriented, and community-minded new colleague for a permanent position as an early childhood education teacher in a language immersion group for 4-5-year-old children. The goal of the language immersion is to offer children functional bilingualism in Finnish and Swedish. Staff use Swedish as the language of instruction, but children can speak both Finnish and Swedish. Cooperation with parents is conducted in Finnish, and children's documents are also recorded in Finnish. Our daycare has two language immersion groups: 4-5-year-olds and pre-school group. The new daycare building, completed in January 2024, is located in the heart of Pukinmäki between two forests. The new premises offer new opportunities for pedagogy and cultural development, combining shared spaces for small daycares with spacious, bright, and communal areas including two gyms, an atelier, and cafeterias on both floors. There are seven home bases across two floors, each housing two groups. Most groups have 2 teachers and 1 child carer, with some groups having two staff members including a social pedagogue teacher and a child carer. The unit also includes an integrated special group with its own home base, and a small satellite group at Palsamipolku. Nature utilization is integral to our pedagogy. The environment around Pukinmäki is rich with forests, a library, playgrounds, sports parks, and an athletics field within a kilometer. Our focus is on supporting friendship and emotional skills, language learning, reading readiness, and building a child's relationship with nature as part of overall well-being. We have recently developed our community-oriented and strength-based culture. We expect enthusiasm and active engagement in implementing and developing language immersion pedagogy, a positive attitude towards strengthening cooperation between groups, and readiness to take on small responsibilities. Good teamwork skills and digital skills are also valued. A language bonus of 50 euros/month is paid to staff working in language immersion. Why work with us? As an early childhood education teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive activity culture and learning environment for your group, planning, implementing, developing, and evaluating pedagogical activities, and supporting individual learning according to Helsinki's early childhood education and pre-school curriculum, unit plans, and child's needs. Qualifications: You must have a qualification under the Finnish Early Childhood Education Act (540/2018) or a transitional provision (75 §), a Bachelor's degree in Education, a suitable university of applied sciences degree, or an equivalent previous qualification, such as a kindergarten teacher or social pedagogue degree. Recognition of foreign qualifications by the Finnish National Agency for Education is also accepted. Additionally, good oral and written Finnish skills and satisfactory oral Swedish skills are required. The selected person must present a valid criminal background check for working with children (504/2002). A tuberculosis certificate for working with underage children will be checked (Communicable Diseases Act § 55). Starting a permanent contract in 2026, we offer a one-time incentive of 2000 euros.
