Job Description
Kauniainen's primary school is a comprehensive school that includes Mäntymäki teaching point (grades 1-6) and Kasavuori teaching point (grades 7-9). Our work community has a strong culture of collaboration. We have 24 school guidance counselors. We are now seeking a school guidance counselor for Swedish language immersion, for a permanent position. A suitable candidate for the role of school guidance counselor is someone who: 1) has completed a higher education degree suitable for the position, a vocational qualification, or equivalent previous studies, a professional qualification or specialized professional qualification, and has acquired or demonstrated skills in guiding a children's group through training or experience, or 2) is qualified to teach classroom subjects, preschool education, special education, or act as a student counselor. (According to the Decree on Qualifications for Teaching Staff 115/2004, section 9a) Applicants with previous work, coaching, or other experience in guiding children’s groups, or who otherwise demonstrate suitability for the position, may also be considered. We require the selected candidate to have good and fluent proficiency in Swedish, and satisfactory proficiency in Finnish. Excellent cooperation and interaction skills are important for successful performance of the role. A six (6) month trial period will be applied in the selection process. The selected person must present a criminal record extract as required by the Criminal Records Act (504/2002) before starting employment, to verify no criminal background related to working with children and youth. Work and salary payments are interrupted during school holidays. Previous successful experience working in a school and/or in children’s and youth’s extracurricular activities is an advantage. Experience working with neurodiverse children/youth is also considered an asset.
