Teacher for Preparatory Education, Tuiran School - Oulun kaupunki - Oulu, Finland

A fixed-term position for a teacher of preparatory education is available at Tuiran School from August 10, 2026, to January 6, 2027. Tuiran School operates in two units: Matti Hällin kuja 3, grades 1-9, and Merituuli unit, grades 1-6, Kauppaseurantie 2. Preparatory education (valo) is intended for immigrant children of compulsory school age who do not yet have the necessary language skills for basic education. The goal of valo education is to develop Finnish language skills, basic skills in various subjects, learning readiness, and study skills so that the student can transition smoothly to mainstream education. Responsibilities of the valo teacher include: Planning and implementing instruction according to the curriculum for preparatory education Developing students' Finnish language skills and readiness for learning and interaction Enhancing student motivation and participation Recognizing and considering students' learning readiness and support needs, and preparing individual study plans for each student Collaborating with other teaching staff, student welfare services, guardians, and other stakeholders to support the student’s schooling and well-being Assessing students’ progress and supporting the transition from preparatory education to basic education. Teaching obligation is 22 hours, and this position involves preparatory education for primary school. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (986/1998). Original certificates demonstrating qualifications must be presented during possible interviews. Preferred qualifications include: Cultural sensitivity Familiarity with language pedagogy Experience in intercultural teaching Ability to differentiate instruction and work with students requiring individual support Good interaction and collaboration skills The salary is based on the municipal collective agreement for education. Before the appointment is confirmed, the selected candidate must, within 30 days of receiving the decision, present a criminal background check issued under the Act on Background Checks for Persons Working with Children (504/2002) §3.
