Sports Facility Manager - Vaasan kaupunki - Vaasa, Finland

We are seeking a sports facility manager for a permanent position in the municipal technical asset management unit. We offer a responsible and impactful role at the heart of city development — a place to build functional, safe, and inspiring sports environments for residents of Vaasa. In this role, you will influence the development of the entire city’s sports facility network. You will lead investment and construction projects for sports facilities from start to finish and oversee the maintenance and management of sports facilities. You will act as the supervisor of the Sports Facilities team, managing 16 employees, including two foremen. You will be responsible for the team’s operations, finances, and resources. Project management will be meaningful to you; you will lead investment projects throughout their lifecycle, from planning and procurement to construction and commissioning, ensuring schedules, quality, and cost control. You will also serve as a safety coordinator at your construction sites. Your key responsibilities include preparing and monitoring multi-year investment programs, managing procurements and contracts, and applying for government grants. You will work closely with various city units and stakeholders. You may also act as the deputy head of the unit if needed. Qualifications Suitable higher education degree such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering (AMK/YAMK), a Diplomi-insinööri, or other relevant higher education. At least five years of relevant experience in municipal or similar environments managing demanding construction and investment projects. Experience in planning and construction projects, understanding of lifecycle costs of investments and operations. Leadership skills and at least five years of experience in supervisory roles are required. Knowledge of municipal procurement procedures and contract matters is an advantage. Success in this role requires a proactive, solution-oriented approach and the ability to manage large and simultaneous projects in an operational environment. Experience with sports facilities or similar public areas, as well as previous involvement in sports organizations, is considered an advantage. Language skills Vaasa is a bilingual city. The role requires good oral and written skills in one of the official languages, and at least satisfactory skills in the other.
