These tasks are related to the government's goal of hiring 500 young people into fixed-term employment as higher education interns during 2026. The positions are primarily intended for individuals aged 18–25 seeking their first job from the public sector. The internship can only be granted to a student pursuing a bachelor's degree. The internship period includes diverse supporting tasks described in more detail below. The internship may also involve organizing and assisting at events and meetings, as well as communication tasks. Interns will be placed in three different units of the Academy and in groups within those units as follows: In the Funding Applications Unit (RY), the intern will be part of the decision-making and application support group; in the Operations Management Unit (TY), the data management group; and in the Impact and Science Policy Unit (VY), tasks are divided between the Impact Work and Communications Group and the Science Policy and International Affairs Group. The following describes the tasks and skill requirements for interns in each unit. Funding Applications Unit (RY): The intern's tasks include supporting bodies preparing and implementing funding decisions and those involved in science policy preparation, working together with secretaries responsible for these bodies. Additionally, tasks include preparing and opening funding applications with experts and planners, developing monitoring of funding application processes, following up on funding reforms, and monitoring and reporting on Horizon Europe framework program funding. The nature of these tasks emphasizes collaboration and networking skills, but also offers opportunities for independent work. Knowledge of PowerBI software is an advantage for applicants. These tasks require collaboration and networking skills but also allow for independent work. Knowledge of PowerBI is an advantage. Suitable educational background can come from various fields, e.g., natural sciences and engineering, statistics, or social sciences. Operations Management Unit (TY): The Academy of Finland is transitioning in 2027 to using a shared state grant information system for research funding and administration across the government. The system is currently being further developed, with functionalities tailored to the Academy's needs in collaboration with the State Treasury. For this internship, the Academy seeks a student who is in the bachelor's phase or further along in their studies to work on the research funding or state grant information system project, including tasks such as participation in requirement specification, documentation, testing, utilizing the data warehouse for reporting and data analysis, and various investigations.
