We are recruiting a fire chief for the Kittilä fire station group of the Lapland Fire Department. The fire chief position is a non-commissioned officer role. The operational area of the Lapland Fire Department covers the northernmost, largest, and most sparsely populated region of Finland. Extending from the sea to the fells and from cities to wilderness, the Lapland region comprises nearly one-third of Finland, most of which is north of the Arctic Circle. Work shifts at Kittilä and Levi fire stations currently consist of 2-3 personnel per shift. The goal of the Lapland Fire Department is to increase the staffing of station groups to 1+3 personnel. The fire chief acts as the supervisor and on-duty fire group leader during their shift within their fire station group’s area. You are responsible for the station group’s affairs during your shift. You lead firefighting operations according to the response plan and work closely with the on-duty fire chief. Additionally, during your shift, you handle other station group tasks and daily operations organization, including shift planning, training planning and implementation, and other separately agreed tasks. You are also responsible for administrative tasks such as filling out Pronto reports during your shift. Qualifications for the position: - Eligibility as defined by Government Decree 407/2011, Section 6 (non-commissioned officer eligibility). - Class B driver’s license. - Firefit index of at least 3.0 or firefighting capability level 1. The role particularly requires good personnel management skills, initiative, and a constructive and positive attitude towards work. Advantageous qualifications include regional knowledge, avalanche training, experience as a unit leader with a volunteer fire brigade, and knowledge of the boom lift. Salary and employment terms are determined according to HYVTES. The position has a 6-month probation period. The working hours follow the current special permit (24-hour shifts, 42 hours per week). The selected candidate must provide a statement of suitability from occupational health services and a drug test certificate. Additionally, the candidate must consent to a security clearance.
