The unit's responsibilities include the REK function, which handles the police station's report preprocessing. REK evaluates the prerequisites for submitting an investigation or police investigation case and decides in accordance with the crime prevention sector's guidelines which police unit will handle the investigation or police investigation. REK is also responsible for concluding, suspending, mediating, or submitting a limited investigation proposal to the prosecutor when conditions are met. Operational investigation teams are responsible for investigating clearly defined and short-term crimes, events, and acts in the Espoo and Kauniainen areas. REK and operational investigation units are also responsible for providing services at the Espoo main police station, recording reports submitted via the electronic crime report system, archiving investigation and police investigation cases, handling document requests, managing police clerk activities, and organizing info, mailing, and lost property services at the Espoo main police station. The unit manager is also responsible for trainees at the police station, the inspection rights process, acts as the head of confiscation matters, acts as a contact person for the Police University College, coordinates recruitment in the crime prevention sector, and acts as the deputy sector head.
