Job Description

Pohjois-Tapiola School is a new comprehensive school located along good transportation links. It has approximately 850 students and over 130 staff members. The school building was completed in summer 2022, so the facilities and equipment are up-to-date. The school has one of Finland's largest units for autism spectrum education, with eleven support classes planned for the upcoming school year, involving about 80 students in both general and area-specific curricula. Each class has 6-10 students, and some classes operate as combined classes with students from different grades. In addition to teachers, special education assistants support the students. We expect you to be prepared to teach students of different ages in an area-specific manner and to lead a classroom team. Excellent communication skills, a flexible and encouraging work approach are essential for the role. The position is a fixed-term employment. Start date: August 1, 2026. This workplace is accessible. Salary: According to OVTES. The base salary is determined by the individual's education level. Qualified special class teachers will receive an additional amount based on the job's complexity. Teacher qualifications are determined according to the decree no 986/98 on the qualifications of education personnel. According to section 9 of the decree, a primary school teacher must have excellent oral and written skills in Finnish. We also consider non-qualified applicants for fixed-term positions. The role requires the ability to teach area-specific curricula and to organize support and instruction for diverse learners, as well as maintaining well-being. Success in the role depends on strong collaboration skills with parents and other school staff, leading and supporting the classroom team, and adapting to changing situations. Applicants must present a criminal record extract as specified in the Criminal Records Act section 6.2. Experience in teaching in a comprehensive school and training in areas such as Mapa and physical boundary setting are valued.
