Technology Development Manager

We are hiring for Terrafame in Sotkamo to fill the role of Technology Development Manager. This position leads a new development team and shapes the next phase of our production process improvement. The role is not about developing technology in isolation from production; it focuses on identifying the most promising development opportunities, assessing their impact, and delivering practical solutions together with production and other experts. Your work will affect production performance, safety, quality, cost efficiency, responsibility, and long-term competitiveness. You will lead a new team of top experts, define team goals, operating model and role, and build an impactful development agenda in close collaboration with production. The position sits at the intersection of technology, production, development and strategy. Work starts as soon as possible by agreement, and it is a permanent day job. Partial remote work is possible. You will: start the new development team, set clear direction, goals and operating model; identify the most important development needs for chemical plants and production processes with the production organization; build and lead development portfolios prioritized by safety, production impact, financial potential, feasibility and strategic importance; monitor process industry technological development and assess automation, analytics, AI, digitalization and new production technologies; bring development ideas to life through pilots, experiments, concepting and project preparation; foster collaboration between production, research, project work, maintenance, quality, environment, safety and management; lead experienced experts with purpose, coaching and outcome focus. Requirements: a suitable higher university degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, production economics, automation or technology leadership, or equivalent through experience; strong experience in process or chemical industry, metal refining, battery materials or other demanding production environments; proven track record in developing technology, production processes, automation, digitalization, energy efficiency, quality or operational performance; experience leading development projects, pilots, portfolios or investment preparations; ability to utilize production data, metrics and analytics in decision making and impact validation; experience leading senior experts, project teams or matrix organizations; advantageous: experience from chemical plant production, industrial startups, process safety, quality management, IATF/ISO environments, Lean/operational excellence and production data analytics. Leadership: technology-oriented, business-driven developer who turns opportunities into decisions, experiments and results. You lead senior experts with clear direction and goals, provide mentoring and constructive interviewing, and ensure focus across the organization. You build trust across functions and enable cross-functional teams to work toward common objectives. You are willing to challenge established methods based on facts, impact and collaboration; you work long-term even in changing and unclear situations and keep development direction clear.
