Job Description

We are seeking a chief physician in anesthesia for a permanent position at the Surgery and Intensive Care Center, Women's Clinic anesthesia and surgery unit. We offer a demanding and highly interesting role as the chief physician of the Women's Clinic. The position is shared with HUS's Surgery and Intensive Care Center, and its current location is Operating Theaters I-line, Women's Clinic anesthesia and surgery unit. The chief physician's responsibilities include leading and developing the anesthesia and surgery unit at the Women's Clinic, as well as related anesthesiology and intensive care functions, and actively engaging in teaching, research, and development activities with other responsible personnel. Successful performance of the role requires expertise and experience in managing a multidisciplinary surgical unit, excellent communication and collaboration skills, active involvement in research, teaching, and systematic development of operations, and familiarity with the specialized fields of anesthesiology practiced in our unit. Additional training and experience in these areas, as well as leadership training, are considered advantageous. Start date: 1 November 2026 or by agreement. A maximum six-month probation period applies to new appointments. The unit handles both elective and emergency gynecological surgery patients, including cancer surgery and robot-assisted procedures, as well as obstetric surgery patients. Anesthesiologists also provide analgesia and anesthesia services for laboring women. The Women's Clinic is a large maternity hospital in Europe, with approximately 9,000 births annually. Risk pregnancies are managed centrally, partly on a national level. Qualifications include specialist medical degree in a relevant specialty and a docent title in a relevant field, along with experience in management or leadership roles in the field, and licensed to practice medicine or authorized to work as a doctor. The relevant specialty for this position is anesthesiology and intensive care. Language skills required include good oral and written proficiency in Finnish, and satisfactory proficiency in Swedish, or good oral and written proficiency in Swedish and satisfactory proficiency in Finnish. Applicants working in patient and customer areas must have vaccination protection according to infectious disease law, and healthcare workers must provide a health status report regarding tuberculosis. The salary for the position is based on the doctor’s salary scale according to the career ladder, amounting to €8,227/month, plus possible experience and other allowances.
