Job Description

We are seeking an innovative professional to join our team and develop expertise in in vitro diagnostics. The Department of Biotechnology at the university has a fixed-term employment opportunity for a university lecturer in biotechnology from 1.9.2026 to 30.6.2028. The fixed-term nature is due to a temporary replacement. The university lecturer will be responsible for designing and implementing practical exercises related to biotechnology and biotechnical systems in in vitro diagnostics within the Biochemistry BSc program, the Biotechnology MSc program, and the Molecular Biosciences MSc program, as well as other teaching tasks mainly related to major and advanced studies in these programs. The role also includes research, administrative work, and responsibility for developing degree programs. Ideal candidate Applicants should have a general familiarity with in vitro diagnostics and more in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas and the technical solutions and systems used: biomarkers and clinical diagnostics, in vitro diagnostic platforms utilizing biomolecules and detection technologies, biosensors, immunoassays, and nucleic acid diagnostics methods. Prior publication and research activity in the field of in vitro diagnostics and/or postgraduate studies in this area, as well as work experience in industry or research collaboration with industry, are considered advantageous. Proficiency in Finnish is essential. The selected candidate is expected to actively participate in research in the field and have the ability to secure research funding. When evaluating applicants, practical familiarity with the field from an educational perspective and readiness to start the role on 1.9.2026 are key criteria. Consideration is also given to previous publication and research activity, and perspectives on the direction of research related to in vitro diagnostics methods and detection systems in the candidate’s doctoral research or other research. Particular emphasis is placed on technical expertise, ability to supervise biotechnology practical exercises outside one's specialty, previous teaching and supervision experience, student feedback, pedagogical training, ability to produce learning materials, and other achievements in teaching, as well as a teaching demonstration.
