Job Description

On behalf of our technology industry customer in Jyväskylä we now look for a THERMAL DESIGN ENGINEER to strengthen the in-house equipment design team. You will operate at the intersection of thermal engineering, simulation, and product development, focusing on high-performance heat transfer solutions in demanding industrial applications. Your responsibilities will include: Drive continuous improvement across thermal designs, materials, and engineering methods from concept development to validated industrial solutions. Apply advanced heat and mass transfer principles. Perform simulation-driven engineering and optimization. Design and develop heat exchangers and thermal management systems. Lead numerical modeling and validation workflows. Contribute to geometrical and functional innovation. Translate complex simulations into actionable engineering decisions and customer value. Maintain high-quality technical documentation and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. In close team interaction you will grow into a thermal process specialist building on the technical insights derived from every project. Initial external consultant assignment is until further notice but holds the option of permanent employment with the end-customer. The assignment is also suitable for freelance entrepreneurs part of our supplier network. As the thermal design engineer we look for you need to have genuine interest in thermal design and optimisation. We expect you to be professional and self-driven sharing our passion for technology, engineering and the commitment to move our customers' performance forward. We expect of you: You combine solid theoretical understanding with hands-on engineering capability and a strong drive to solve complex real-world problems. Preferered academic background MSc (or similar) in: Mechanical Engineering (Thermal/Fluid focus), Thermal Engineering, Energy Technology, Computational Physics or equivalent. Strong foundation in: Advanced Heat and Mass Transfer (analytical & numerical methods), Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Numerical Methods in Engineering. Skills communicating fluently both by speaking and writing in English. Finnish is a nice bonus. Professional experience in heat exchanger / thermal equipment design, HVAC&R systems, thermal management in industrial or mobile applications, energy systems or process engineering. Proven capability in simulation-driven development, CFD (e.g., ANSYS Fluent or equivalent), Multiphysics modeling and interpretation. Experience with performance evaluation and optimization of thermal systems, linking simulation results with physical testing. Core competencies include strong problem-solving and analytical thinking, solid understanding of engineering trade-offs, collaborative mindset, and ability to work across engineering, production, and commercial interfaces. At least 5 years relevant work experience and documented commitment to work quality and schedules. Curiosity and motivation to work with advanced simulation, emerging methods (e.g., AI-assisted engineering).
