Job Description

We are seeking a veterinarian for the University Animal Hospital's Production Animal Clinic in Mäntsälä for a fixed-term employment starting from September 1, 2026, for one year. Join our team of eight hospital veterinarians at the Production Animal Clinic. You will have opportunities for professional development, stay updated with the latest practices and research results, and engage in evidence-based veterinary medicine in a collaborative environment – welcome to our team! The hospital community values respect and appreciation, science-based teaching, quality, and expertise. In addition to top specialists, we also work with early-career professionals and those at various stages of their careers. An essential part of the work involves supervising veterinary students during clinical practice. The duties of a hospital veterinarian include clinical rounds, health visits, treatment of hospital and outpatient patients, and participation in emergency services. Cases range from routine practice to complex referral cases, handled collaboratively with the team. The Production Animal Clinic provides basic to advanced practice for production animals, as well as equine and small animal practice based on municipal agreements within its operational area. Emergency services are provided on standby days, approximately two weeknights and half a weekend per month. Applicants must hold a veterinary degree authorized in Finland and have good Finnish language skills. Specialization and practical experience are advantageous. We also value other work experience, attitude, and fit within the work community. Salary and application process: We ensure pay equity through the university’s salary system. Positions are classified into different levels based on complexity. In addition to a level-based base salary, a percentage-based performance bonus is paid, typically between 11-18%. The salary range for this position is approximately €3,736–€4,582 per month, adjusted according to experience, skills, and responsibilities. University-specific evening, night, emergency, and weekend allowances are also paid. Applications with attachments should be submitted via the University of Helsinki’s electronic recruitment system by July 3, 2026 (23:59). The position begins on September 1, 2026 (or by agreement). The employment includes a six-month probation period. For more information, contact Chief Veterinarian Riikka Lasonen at 050479 8775 or riikka.lasonen(at)helsinki.fi. Inquiries via email are welcome from June 22 to June 28, 2026. For questions regarding employment and salary, contact HR Specialist Emmi Karlstedt at 029415 7153 or emmi.karlstedt(at)helsinki.fi. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki is Finland’s only veterinary training institution. It is responsible for basic veterinary education, research, and continuing education. Graduates contribute to animal welfare and food safety. The University Animal Hospital is a unique unit with diverse tasks and experts. As a teaching hospital, we train future veterinarians, serve as a postgraduate training site for specialists, and provide clinical placements for students studying veterinary nursing. Teaching is central to our daily activities. We also conduct high-quality research and provide expert advice on related issues. Annually, we treat a large number of small animals and horses in Viikki and production animals in Mäntsälä.
