Job Description
Your task is to teach immigrants of different ages and backgrounds in elementary school or possibly in middle school. The class size is about 12 students, and the composition and number of students may vary during the school year. Preparatory education follows the curriculum for preparatory teaching, aiming to support the development of students' language, learning, and social skills so they can transition to basic education. There are 24-26 teaching hours, which may include teaching other classes/students. In teaching, you will utilize language awareness, diverse differentiation, and cultural competence. You will be supported by a city-wide network. Preparatory education has a long tradition in Lahti's basic education, providing an opportunity to strengthen an existing culture and learn more. Key aspects of preparatory education are integration and multidisciplinary collaboration, requiring excellent communication and teamwork skills. Experience and success in guiding and collaborating with teachers are considered an advantage. The preparatory class teacher is an important language learning role model for students, so excellent Finnish language skills are required. The qualification requirement is a basic education teacher qualification. Teacher qualifications are determined according to the decree no 986/98 on the qualifications of education personnel. If there are no qualified applicants, the position can be filled with an applicant without formal qualifications. Please indicate your qualification in your application and attach copies of certificates proving your qualifications. Original certificates will be checked in the possible interview. The selected candidate must present a criminal background check as required by law 504/2002 before starting the position. A drug test certificate may also be requested.
