The City of Haapajärvi is seeking a city mayor for a permanent position starting from October 1, 2026, or as agreed. We are looking for a visionary and goal-oriented leader to build together with elected officials, staff, businesses, and stakeholders the next phase of growth and development for Haapajärvi. The city mayor is responsible for strategic leadership, finance, administration, and vitality development. They serve as a unifying force that fosters collaboration, strengthens trust, and implements goals decisively. Qualifications: - Suitable higher university degree - Strong leadership experience - Good knowledge of municipal or public administration and municipal economy - Good command of English We especially value: - Extensive work experience and strong professional track record - Excellent communication and collaboration skills - Ability to build trust and communicate openly and positively - Knowledge of the business sector and broad networks - Strategic vision combined with practical implementation skills - Knowledge of green transition projects and investments The application deadline is August 23, 2026, at 23:59. The city mayor can also be a person who has expressed willingness to accept the position and meets the criteria. An external evaluator may be used in assessing applicants’ suitability. The selected candidate must provide an acceptable medical certificate of health before assuming the position. Salary: KVTES, with the applicant’s own salary request.
