Job Description

The Tampere Animal Health Services unit belongs to the Urban Environment Services area, Sustainable City service group. The environmental health authority is the regional environmental health department. The operational area includes the cities of Tampere, Orivesi, Akaa, Kangasala, and Valkeakoski, as well as the municipalities of Juupajoki, Pälkäne, and Urjala. The animal health services employ a total of 17 people: the head of animal health services, seven practicing veterinarians, six control veterinarians, and three hygiene veterinarians. We are seeking a control veterinarian for a permanent position. The start date is negotiable. Your duties as a control veterinarian include animal welfare inspections, infectious disease surveillance, monitoring of animal identification and registration, and oversight of the use of animal by-products, in collaboration with five other control veterinarians in the region. The role primarily focuses on animal welfare inspections. The tasks are carried out across eight municipalities within the environmental health area. The position does not include practical work or on-call duties. The role requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to work independently. Excellent spoken and written Finnish skills are essential for successful performance. The qualification requirement is a licensed veterinarian in Finland, in accordance with the Veterinary Act (29/2000) Section 3. Veterinarians licensed in other EU/EEA countries must provide proof of qualification for the municipal veterinarian position in accordance with Section 43 of the Act. A valid B-driver’s license is also required. The position requires the use of a personal vehicle. Previous experience in control tasks, good word processing skills, and good interpersonal skills are considered an advantage. Please attach copies of certificates proving your qualifications to the electronic application via Kuntarekry. Original employment and educational certificates will be reviewed during the interview. Before accepting the position, the selected candidate must provide a certificate of health status, approved under the Act on Public Servants (304/2003, Section 7). We apply a six-month probationary period for permanent positions. The salary consists of a level-based salary of €5,890.76/month, plus experience-based supplements and other possible allowances. For more information about the position, contact Acting Head of Animal Health Services Teemu Kipinoinen at 040 133 6266 and Control Veterinarian Otto Kivirauma at 040 180 6191, via email at etunimi.sukunimi@tampere.fi.
