Job Description
Mecaplan is a Finnish engineering and design company founded in 2001, with the mission to improve quality of life by developing products and technologies for our customers. Our clients operate in machinery and equipment manufacturing, electrical and energy industries, electronics and telecommunications, marine, defense, cleantech, and medical sectors. We are seeking a Technical Writer for our customer projects. Role: We are looking for a technical writer to work full-time on customer projects within our South & West team, whose members are based in Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere. We are currently seeking reinforcement especially for projects in the Capital Region. The work is primarily hybrid, with at least half of the workweek spent at the customer’s site, depending on their hybrid work practices. We also aim to meet with our team once a month at Mecaplan’s office. As a technical writer, you will be responsible for updating existing technical manuals and creating new ones, writing technical texts, designing illustrations, producing simple technical drawings (e.g., block diagrams, simple circuit diagrams, graphs), and possibly creating installation images or animations. Our assignments are often long-term and extensive, allowing you to delve deeply into the core activities of the customer organization and utilize your professional strengths. Typically, 1-2 Mecaplan employees work on a project, sometimes larger teams. Tasks are tailored to the individual, with the goal of long-term employment and opportunities for growth in different roles. The base salary for the position is approximately €2,800–€4,200 per month depending on experience, plus bonus schemes and good employee benefits. Keys to success in the role: We expect you to have technical skills gained through work experience, education, or strong hobbies. Above all, you should be enthusiastic about understanding technical systems and documenting them clearly, capable of articulating complex concepts understandably, and have an eye for the visual appearance and design of documents. Good organizational and project management skills are also important to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. It is an advantage if you can interpret circuit diagrams, software block diagrams, and mechanical drawings. You will be working with the following software, so prior experience with these is appreciated: Excosoft Skribenta, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, MS Visio, Creo Illustrate, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat. You work fluently in English, both written and spoken, and Finnish language skills are also desired.
