Doctoral Researcher in Machine Learning for Predictive Maintenance of Maritime Machinery - Aalto University - Helsinki, Finland

Aalto University is seeking a highly motivated doctoral researcher to join the TRANSITION-MODEL project at the School of Engineering, Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering. The project focuses on advancing predictive maintenance from offline modelling toward real-time decision support by combining reliability engineering, probabilistic modelling, machine learning, and maritime machinery data. The position involves developing models for anomaly detection, degradation, and remaining useful life prediction, working with experimental and operational datasets, and investigating latent-variable, deep-learning, and Bayesian approaches. The role includes designing evaluation protocols and collaborating with international and industrial partners. The position offers opportunities for scientific publication, conference presentation, and interdisciplinary research in Espoo, Finland. The employment is fixed-term, starting no later than September 2026, for two years with possible extension. The salary is based on Aalto University’s salary system and collective agreement.
