Assistant Nurse Substitute for Surgical Emergency Department M4-5, Abdominal Center - HUS diagnostiikkakeskus

Our unit is a 42-bed surgical emergency department for abdominal surgery, located on the fourth and fifth floors of the Meilahti Tower Hospital. Patients are primarily transferred from the emergency outpatient clinic, surgical ward, and intensive care unit. We treat emergency patients with abdominal and vascular surgical conditions. Emergency surgical patient care is provided by a multidisciplinary team working in pairs. Our team includes practical nurses and registered nurses. The average length of stay is approximately 4 days. Staff must be able to quickly identify and respond to significant patient issues and sudden changes in condition. We offer an interesting and varied role where you can challenge yourself and develop your skills in demanding specialized care. You will participate in multidisciplinary care for complex surgical patients, focusing on patient monitoring, observation, medication administration, recognizing and responding to sudden changes in patient condition, basic care, various procedures, patient guidance and education, and rehabilitation. As a practical nurse, you will be responsible for patient care alongside a colleague or team. Practical nurses at our department have so far worked in two-shift schedules, and we aim to accommodate individual preferences in shift planning. We use a collaborative scheduling system to help balance work and free time. You should have experience in surgical patient care in specialized healthcare. Emergency patient care involves a lot of guidance and teaching, so good Finnish language skills, both spoken and written, are essential. The role includes medication administration. Our practical nurses can also administer limited N-medicines and place peripheral IV lines. Existing medication licenses (LOP, somatic specialty, and limited N-license) are advantageous but can be obtained during orientation. We provide comprehensive orientation, and the duration and content can be tailored in collaboration with the training nurse and ward manager. Salary: SOTE agreement and task-specific salary of €2870/month, with possible experience and other allowances. Qualifications for the position: Practical nurse or basic nurse qualification. Registration with the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) is required. Applicants working in patient and client facilities must have vaccination protection according to infectious disease law, and healthcare workers must provide a health statement regarding tuberculosis.
