Job Description
The rock school, despite its name, is not an educational institution but part of the activities of the Youth Services in Kokkola, offering affordable and diverse music instruction in Finnish, Swedish, and English for young people. At the rock school, anyone interested can participate regardless of skill level, as there is no entrance exam or qualification for exams. The rock school provides opportunities for all youth to engage in creative activities, develop social interaction skills, and express themselves as individuals or in groups both on and off stage. We are now seeking a part-time singing instructor for the upcoming operational year. The number of teaching hours is approximately 8-16 hours per week, depending on the number of students. The work requires an independent approach, good cooperation and communication skills, and the ability to work with young people facing difficult life situations. Since the needs and goals of the young people attending the rock school can vary greatly, we expect the selected candidate to have a youth work perspective alongside teaching skills. Participation in concert planning and implementation, such as accompanying students, and other projects is also expected. Suitable musical education or sufficient musical skills are required. Previous experience working with children and youth is considered an advantage. The position is under Youth Services, and employment terms are based on the KVTES agreement. The salary depends on education, ranging from €20 to €27.76 per hour. Music instruction mainly takes place on weekday evenings. The position is temporary, starting in autumn 2026 (week 35) and continuing until early May 2027. The temporary period includes a paid break over the turn of the year, during which no music instruction is organized. Applicants must submit a criminal record extract related to working with children within 30 days of receiving the employment decision, in accordance with the Act (504/2002). Applications should be submitted via Kuntarekry.fi by July 31, 2026, at 18:00. Interviews will be held in week 33, and candidates will be contacted by phone.
