Job Description

The City of Tampere has six daytime high schools and one adult education high school, with 4,600 future graduates. The growing and developing high school education employs 350 dedicated professionals committed to shaping students' futures. In addition to high-quality and diverse general education offerings, Tampere's high schools have five special educational tasks: visual arts and design, sports, natural sciences, music and musical theatre, and English-language IB education. The high schools also offer other curriculum emphases, including mathematics and technology, communication, social sciences, skateboarding, and the bilingual study programme in Finnish and English, launched in 2025-2026. Pyynikki High School will have approximately 650 students and about 40 staff members in the 2026-2027 academic year. Each year, over one hundred new students start at our school. We operate in new permanent premises at Pyynikintie 2. Besides the general high school, we serve as a high school with a special educational task in music (music and musical theatre). We also have a bilingual study programme (BSP) in Finnish and English for the second year. The English-language high school education (ESP) begins at Pyynikki High School on August 1, 2026. As student numbers grow, we are seeking a full-time teacher of native language and literature and S2 for a fixed-term position from August 4, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The role includes teaching high school students in native language and literature, S2, developing teaching, and other teacher duties. The position requires strong subject knowledge, willingness to develop and improve, good interaction and collaboration skills with staff and students, good ICT skills, and a solid understanding of high school students' development. Teaching duties may include co-teaching, joint lessons, and online teaching. Qualifications are based on the Decree on Qualifications for Teaching Staff (986/1998). Experience working with students from international backgrounds and the ability to teach in English are considered an advantage. Teaching experience at both high school and upper primary school levels is also valued. Before starting the position, the selected candidate must present a criminal record extract as per section 6, subsection 2 of the Criminal Records Act. We use a trial period for the position, which in a fixed-term contract shorter than a year can be up to half of the contract duration. Salary is based on the OVTES agreement. It includes a task-specific salary, an annual bonus, and other possible allowances. Please attach copies of certificates proving your qualifications to the electronic application via Kuntarekry. Original certificates will be checked during the interview process. For more information about the position, contact Deputy Principal Jaakko Saulamaa at 044 430 9361 or jaakko.saulamaa@tampere.fi. The application deadline is June 10, 2026. Applications are submitted through Kuntarekry by clicking the 'Apply for job' button. Instructions for applying are available at https://www.tampere.fi/tyo. Electronic applications must be received by 23:59, and postal applications by 15:00. Late applications will not be considered.
