Full-time Adult Education Teacher, teaching Finnish as a Second Language and Literature - Kotkan kaupunki - Kotka, Finland

The City of Kotka's Education Department is seeking a substitute for a full-time adult education teacher at the adult high school, teaching Finnish as a Second Language and Literature, for a fixed term from August 17, 2026, to June 6, 2027. The substitute position is located at Kotka Adult High School, which operates in shared premises with Kotka Lyseo on Kotkansaari. The teaching task is in adult basic education, with courses possibly including other subjects in the early stages, in addition to S2 instruction. Adult basic education is delivered as daytime studies. Kotka Adult High School also offers high school courses to students. We are looking for an enthusiastic, development-oriented, and cooperative teacher with good teamwork and teaching skills and a desire to learn new things. We value the ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and the willingness to develop and implement flexible teaching arrangements. It is essential that the applicant is prepared to teach students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and experience in teaching immigrants is considered an advantage. Qualifications are based on the Decree No. 986/98 on the qualifications of education personnel. Certificates demonstrating qualifications will be checked during the interview process. Before confirming the appointment, the selected candidate must present a criminal background check related to working with children, as required by law (504/2002). The employment relationship includes a four (4) month probation period. Salary is according to the municipal collective agreement for the education sector. The task-specific salary for a qualified teacher at Kotka Education Department is €3,671.39 per month, excluding possible overtime and annual bonuses.
