This position is part of the government's goal to hire 500 young people in 2026 for fixed-term service roles as seasonal workers and higher education interns. The tasks are especially intended for individuals aged 18–25 seeking their first job from the public sector. The cook's responsibilities include managing the workplace catering at the border guard station, supervising the hygiene of the station's food service, participating in the maintenance of catering equipment, and ensuring the cleanliness of the station's kitchen. The Kainuu Border Guard is responsible for border security in Kainuu and Koillismaa as part of Finland's internal security system. The Border Guard employs approximately 220 personnel, with about 60 at the Vartiuksen border station. The Kainuu Border Guard oversees 406 kilometers of the national border between Finland and Russia. The area includes five border stations and four international border crossing points, two on land and two at airports. The headquarters is located in Kajaani. The environment is typical of Kainuu and Koillismaa, characterized by forested terrain, water bodies, and natural hazards. Distances are long, and areas are sparsely populated. In addition to patrolling and technical border surveillance at the national border, tasks include monitoring on border roads and in municipal centers, although the eastern border crossing points are currently closed. Defense tasks such as ensuring regional integrity and maintaining defense readiness are part of the Border Guard's activities. Besides border surveillance, the Kainuu Border Guard also participates in essential security services in sparsely populated areas, such as police and first response duties, supporting other authorities.
