Join us in Pukinmäki to implement early childhood education in Swedish! We are looking for a skilled, professional, and warm-hearted new colleague for a permanent position as an early childhood educator in the Swedish language immersion pre-school group. The goal of the language immersion is to offer children functional bilingualism in Finnish and Swedish. Staff use Swedish as the language of instruction, but children speak both Finnish and Swedish. Collaboration with parents is conducted in Finnish, and children's documents are also recorded in Finnish. Our daycare has two language immersion groups: 4-5-year-olds and pre-school. The new daycare building, opening in January 2024, is located in the heart of Pukinmäki between two forests. The new premises offer new opportunities for pedagogy and cultural development, combining small daycare shared spaces with spacious, bright, and communal areas including gyms, ateliers, and dining halls across two floors. There are seven 'home bases' in two floors, each housing two groups. Most groups have 2 teachers and 1 child carer, with some groups having two staff members including a social pedagogue teacher and a child carer. An integrated special needs group with its own home base is also available, along with a small satellite group at Palsamipolku. Nature is an integral part of our pedagogy, with the nearby environment rich in forests, libraries, playgrounds, sports parks, and a track and field stadium within a kilometer. We focus on city strategy goals, emphasizing peer and emotional skills, language learning, literacy, and children’s connection to nature as part of overall well-being. We have recently developed our culture to be more community-oriented and strength-based. As an early childhood educator, you will plan and implement pedagogically focused care, upbringing, and education together with other staff, according to the unit’s operational plan, Helsinki’s early childhood education plan, pre-school plan, and the child’s early childhood plan. You will be responsible for children’s needs in daily activities and promote their health and well-being. Qualifications: We require a basic degree in education and guidance, social and health care, or an equivalent relevant qualification, including or supplemented with extensive studies in child care, upbringing, and education (Early Childhood Education Act 540/2018, §28, Regulation 753/2018, §§3-4). Recognition of foreign qualifications by the Finnish National Agency for Education is also accepted. Good oral and written Finnish skills are required. The selected candidate must present a valid criminal background check for working with children (504/2002). A tuberculosis clearance for working with underage children will be checked (Communicable Diseases Act 55 §).
