Substitute for Guidance Counselor at KAO Kuusamo - Kajaanin kaupunki

Kainuu Vocational College is seeking a guidance counselor for a fixed-term position at the Kuusamo unit, from August 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027, or as agreed upon. The role involves acting as a guidance counselor for secondary vocational education students. The Kuusamo unit is multidisciplinary: automotive, hairdressing, education and guidance, business, logistics, tourism, hospitality and catering, construction, social and health care, electrical, and TUV. Responsibilities include application guidance, personal counseling, small group / group guidance, skills recognition and validation processes, career guidance, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Guidance work at Kainuu Vocational College is planned and implemented collaboratively, so good teamwork skills are valued. Flexibility, a development-oriented approach, and enthusiasm for using diverse guidance methods in cooperation with the team and working life are appreciated. Experience as a guidance counselor and in vocational education is considered an advantage. Qualifications are based on the regulations for teaching staff qualifications (Government Decree 986/1998, amended 1150/2017). A suitable higher education degree and 60 ECTS or 35 credit points of guidance studies are required. Consideration may be given to applicants without formal qualifications if no qualified applicant applies. Priority will be given to employees of the City of Kainuu who are laid off, part-time, on furlough, or under suspension, provided they meet the qualification requirements. The selected candidate must present a criminal record extract issued within the last three months according to law 504/2002, and upon request, a substance abuse test certificate.
