Job Description

Hello, experienced anesthesia nurse! Are you ready to take the next step in your career in both clinical work and the development and management of nursing? If you answered yes, then this announcement is just for you! Join us as an Assistant Head Nurse for the anesthesia side at the Ophthalmology Surgical Unit Kaarna. The number of patients in the ophthalmology units has grown significantly in recent years. In 2025, the brand new Tammisairaala, located near the Meilahti campus, was completed with new, spacious operating rooms, which enables the continuous increase and development of our operations. To meet the demand for care, we also need innovative operational developers to join our team. Our specialty may sound narrow, but our operations are extensive and interesting. We treat both elective and emergency surgeries, and the age range of patients varies from newborns to the elderly. In addition to patients in our own area, we have national responsibilities for tumor patient surgeries, corneal transplants, and retinal detachment patients on weekends. Job Description In your role, in addition to clinical work, you will act as the head nurse's right hand in the planning and organization of daily operations together with two other assistant head nurses operating in the unit. Cooperation with staff in the development of nursing and processes is a central part of your work. Multidisciplinary cooperation with various parties is part of your daily routine, as is substituting for the head nurse when necessary and taking responsibility for the functioning of the work community. You do not need to have previous experience in ophthalmology, but the work requires strong anesthesia expertise in both pediatric and adult anesthesia. We value a development-oriented mindset, a positive attitude, and the ability to lead operations in changing situations. The position requires experience in coordinating daily operations, personnel and resource planning, and ensuring the smoothness of surgical operations. To succeed in the position, you need excellent organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage several simultaneous entities. Additionally, we value good interaction and cooperation skills as well as team spirit. HUS offers its employees diverse employment benefits, such as culture and sports benefits, employer-supported lunch, the possibility to apply for HUS rental apartments, rentable holiday cottages, discounts for sports and cultural hobbies, and many other benefits. The position-specific salary is determined according to the SOTE agreement, being €3,810.46/month in this position, plus possible experience and other bonuses. So come join us if ophthalmology is close to your heart or if you want to learn a new versatile and broad specialty - submit your application today! We will contact applicants during the application period, and interviews are in week 33/2026, Wednesday and Thursday August 12-13, 2026, from 12:30-15:00, and Friday August 14, 2026, from 9:00-14:00. You can also call Head Nurse Anja, who will be happy to tell you more about the position. What are you waiting for, just send your application! In the application, we want to hear about your expertise in the surgical ward and any special responsibilities and development projects you have been involved in. Please include your updated CV. At HUS, you are doing your life's work! Eligibility Requirements A suitable upper university degree and suitable experience, or a lower university degree supplemented by suitable studies in management or administration or included in the degree and suitable experience, or previously approved qualification as a head nurse and suitable experience, or a vocational college degree in the field supplemented by studies in management or administration and suitable experience, and additionally, a licensed healthcare professional. We require vaccination protection in accordance with the Communicable Diseases Act for those working in customer and patient areas, and a health statement regarding pulmonary tuberculosis for those working in healthcare operational units. Language requirements are good oral and written skills in Finnish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Swedish, or good oral and written skills in Swedish and satisfactory oral and written skills in Finnish.
