Job Description

The University of Turku Library is hiring a Research Information Specialist for a permanent position starting from September 1, 2026, or as agreed. Job Description The Research Information Specialist will be part of the Library's Information Resources Availability unit, responsible for the accessibility and discoverability of information resources used by the entire university community, as well as advising on open publishing within the framework of transformative information resource agreements. The unit manages the library's information resource budget and prepares the library's information resource policy. In practice, the unit ensures that the library's information resource offerings are appropriate in content and format, up-to-date, and easily accessible to library users. The position primarily focuses on expertise in acquiring information resources and open publishing. The specialist maintains contacts with service providers and the FinELibi acquisition consortium. They participate in negotiations of information resource agreements and prepare tenders related to information resource acquisitions in collaboration with library management and other library experts. They communicate about the terms and benefits of agreements, produce and deliver background information for financial and operational monitoring and decision-making, and participate in the development and planning of these and other resource acquisition processes. Depending on library needs, the role may also include other tasks related to the development and communication of information resource offerings. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate understands the main features of the scientific publishing ecosystem, comprehends the basics of information resource procurement in libraries, and is interested in developing procurement practices in line with field changes. Practical experience with contracts and budget management is required, along with a basic understanding of electronic resource delivery methods. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential, and the ability to work in an environment where Finnish is the primary language is expected. The candidate should be comfortable handling numbers, identifying key content and details in texts, and be willing to expand their expertise according to evolving field requirements. Good stress tolerance, problem-solving skills, self-management, teamwork skills, and a constructive attitude are valued. A higher university degree is required, with relevant skills in information work gained through studies or experience in a scientific library. Experience in library acquisitions and/or management functions related to the Alma library system and e-resources is considered an advantage. Knowledge of legal and IT aspects related to the field is also beneficial. Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. An additional performance-based salary component is also paid. The starting salary, depending on experience and skills, is approximately €3,568.49 to €3,905.14 per month.
