Job Description
As a reading skills coordinator, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and promoting literacy work for the City of Lahti. The key task is to establish sustainable structures for literacy work and promote multidisciplinary collaboration across the city. Main responsibilities include: - Preparing and implementing the municipal literacy action plan - Assessing the current state of literacy work and developing improvement plans - Collecting, disseminating, and embedding best practices - Coordinating cooperation among various actors (e.g., early childhood education, basic education, libraries) - Monitoring activities and evaluating impact - Integrating literacy work into the city’s strategic frameworks In your work, you will collaborate closely with operational and steering groups. Your objectives are: - Make Lahti a pioneer among municipalities that promote reading - Strengthen enthusiasm for reading and reading culture - Increase understanding of the importance of literacy as a civic skill As a result of your work: - Literacy work becomes an integral part of the city’s operational culture - Available assessment tools and operational models are systematically adopted - Multiliteracy skills are enhanced among staff - Children and youth receive strong support in media skills, information retrieval, and critical reading - Families’ positive attitudes towards reading are supported through campaigns and events You should have a suitable higher education degree (e.g., education sciences, teaching). Requirements: - Experience in pedagogical development work or project work - Understanding of literacy, multiliteracy, and learning - Ability to coordinate large entities and networks - Excellent communication and collaboration skills Valuable experience: - Multidisciplinary cooperation - Vision for developing reading culture - Experience in education or cultural administration We offer: - The opportunity to influence the well-being and learning of children and youth broadly - A meaningful development role within municipal operations - Support from a skilled and committed team - A vantage point for national literacy development Applicants must present a criminal background check as required by law 504/2002 before taking up the position.
