Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. This Staff Actuary will lead the actuarial thinking behind some of Virta’s most important commercial and strategic decisions. Sitting on the Commercial Analytics team within our Product Development organization, this role is uniquely positioned to connect Virta’s clinical outcomes and data with the financial value we deliver to our clients. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for a commercially minded actuary who wants to go beyond traditional modeling – using data, judgment, and storytelling to influence decisions across Commercial Leadership, Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and our Executive Leadership Team. MUST-HAVES - Actuarial expertise: FSA or ASA designation with 12+ years of relevant experience in healthcare actuarial work, healthcare economics, consulting, payer strategy, employer benefits, or a related field. - Healthcare value and claims expertise: Deep experience using medical and pharmacy claims to measure healthcare cost savings and demonstrate the economic value of value-based care models, with the ability to translate complex analyses into credible client and market-facing narratives. - Hands-on technical fluency: Comfortable working directly with data and building analyses, including strong SQL skills and the ability to independently navigate complex healthcare datasets. Willing to roll up your sleeves and get into the details when needed. - AI-forward mindset: Ability to leverage AI and emerging tools to accelerate analysis, improve workflows, and increase the quality and scalability of your work. - Commercial and strategic judgment: Experience translating complex actuarial and financial analyses into business recommendations, including evaluating performance guarantees, value-based arrangements, pricing strategies, or financial risk. - Influential communicator: Ability to make complex quantitative concepts clear and compelling for audiences ranging from actuaries and analytics teams to clients, commercial leaders, and executives.
