Job Description
Apply to the City of Turku's basic education unit for a one-year substitute position as a specialist in school attendance, learning, and multilingual teaching arrangements starting August 1, 2026. The specialist supports city-level services in schools, assisting management and staff with various issues related to learning and school attendance. They coordinate the Sisukas activities for placed children and youth at the city level. The specialist is part of the unit for school attendance, learning, and multilingual teaching arrangements, which also includes regional specialists, a multicultural education planner, Kietu experts, and unit-specific special service managers. Additionally, they will collaborate regularly with schools and multidisciplinary networks. Your tasks include: Developing the local school principle and inclusive operational culture in Turku's basic education Supporting staff and principals in learning and school attendance issues within city-level services in schools Assessing support provided to students and planning support measures in collaboration with teachers and networks Coordinating arrangements for school attendance of placed children and youth, and the Sisukas team Collaborating with networks and various actors Preparing administrative decisions concerning students. We expect familiarity with the new legislation on learning support effective from August 1, 2025, and the national curriculum. The role requires the ability to understand broad contexts, a strong development-oriented approach, good interaction, negotiation, and teamwork skills, resilience under pressure, and readiness for independent work. We value a multidisciplinary approach and extensive experience in primary education. A suitable higher education degree and sufficient relevant work experience are required. Successful performance in the role requires expertise as a special education teacher or special class teacher. Good Finnish language skills and satisfactory Swedish language skills are necessary. Interviews will be held on Tuesday, July 14, between 10:00 and 15:00 in Turku at Yliopistonkatu 27A.
