Job Description
The City of Kotka's education department is seeking a substitute class teacher for basic education for a fixed term from August 10, 2026, to March 7, 2027. The substitute position is at Käpylä School. Käpylä School is a school with approximately 400 students and about 50 staff members, located near the center of Karhula. In addition to primary education groups, the school has music classes, a physical education class, and three special classes. We value experience in school development work, teamwork skills, versatile teaching methods, the ability to guide students towards broad-based competence, and a solution-oriented work approach. Applicants are expected to have previous teaching experience and a willingness to develop and improve. The position requires multidisciplinary pedagogical skills, readiness for co-teaching, the ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and develop teaching, and strong expertise in information and communication technology in education. Working in the Käpylä School community requires teamwork skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary collaboration according to established guidelines and procedures. The class teacher's work focuses on early primary education, but physical education and/or craft lessons are also provided for other grades. Qualifications are determined according to the decree on the qualifications of education personnel (No. 986/98). Certificates demonstrating qualifications will be checked during the possible interview. A three (3) month probationary period applies to the substitute position. Salary is based on the municipal collective agreement for education staff. The task-specific salary for a qualified teacher in Kotka's education department is €3,282.17 per month, excluding possible overtime and annual allowances. The selected candidate must, before confirmation of appointment, provide an acceptable health statement and a criminal background check related to work with children as required by law (504/2002).
