Job Description

The Cultural Association ILME has been operating as a community art production center since 2019. ILME annually calls for artists to implement community art projects in social and health care units and communities across the country. The goal is to promote access to art and culture by creating art with people who are often excluded from art and cultural services. The production center creates job opportunities for artists, diversifies their work environment, and develops their ability to work in social and health care settings. We are seeking an artist to carry out three community art projects in the Oulu region, scheduled for fall 2026. Two projects will be implemented at activity centers for adults with intellectual disabilities, and the third in a low-threshold community offering diverse communal activities and targeted individual support for adults over 18. The work will mainly be group activities. Participants are clients and staff of the units. We expect you to have an engaging community art idea and plan that can be implemented for the target groups mentioned. You may design one project that can be adapted to three different environments. Cultural Association ILME will coordinate and produce the projects. The work begins on 1.9.2026, and collaboration with groups will take place from September to November. The artist’s work duration is two and a half months. The artist’s salary is €3387/month *100% working time. We also cover reasonable costs for materials, travel, and accommodation. Material costs are capped at €800. The artist call is open to artists from all disciplines. Selection will be based on community art principles. We value professional artistry and familiarity with the target groups. Communities: The working time in the target groups depends on participants’ needs and the schedules of the communities. The first community is an activity center providing client-oriented rehabilitative and participatory daytime activities for adults with intellectual disabilities and disabilities. The activity center plans to have a group for clients needing strong guidance and possibly a shorter group for clients requiring significant physical and individual assistance. Work at the activity center is scheduled for one day a week. The second activity center offers daytime services for adults with intellectual disabilities. It provides work and daytime activities, mobile work, and supported employment. Clients need assistance, support, and guidance in various matters. Work at this center is scheduled for one day a week. The third environment is a low-threshold community offering diverse communal activities and targeted individual support. It is intended for adults over 18 who feel they need community, activities, or support for everyday life, employment, or studies. Support needs may include mental health challenges. Work at this center is scheduled for one or two days a week. Travel theme, topic ILO: The ILME Cultural Association’s project _Here from Art - Travel Agency_ is part of Oulu’s 2026 European Capital of Culture program, and community art projects created within it will become part of _Here from Art - Travel Agency._ Therefore, the theme for community art projects is _journey_, and the theme for the 2026 community art projects is _ILO_. We are seeking an artist to implement travel-themed community art projects on the topic of ILO. In community art, the process, collaborative creation from the community’s own starting points, low threshold, and professional facilitation are essential. The artist gathers participants’ ideas and work into a finished piece that is open to the public. Everything else is open for ideas. Application contents: - Briefly tell about yourself as a community art practitioner - What would be important to you in this project? - Project plan, including: - Which artistic methods you will use with participants? - How you will consider the specific features of the groups? - How you will handle the travel theme and the topic ILO - What kind of public artwork will emerge from the project? (e.g., performance, exhibition, or installation) - Attach as separate files: - Application - Preliminary budget for materials and travel - Your CV - Your portfolio, if desired. Send your application by 17.6.2026 to aino.granlund@kulttuuriosuuskuntailme.fi. Selection will be based on applications. We will notify the decision by 30.6.2026.
