Special Class Substitute Teacher at Keskuskoulu - Kajaanin kaupunki - Kajaani, Finland

The City of Kajaani is seeking a full-time substitute teacher for a special class in basic education at Keskuskoulu for a fixed-term appointment from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The special class teacher's duties include instructing and guiding students requiring individual support in a special class 9E. The role requires good subject knowledge across multiple subjects taught in middle school and the ability to differentiate instruction according to students' needs. The special class teacher is responsible for filling out pedagogical documents for students and collaborates closely with guardians, student welfare staff, and other partners. Keskuskoulu has a team of special education teachers and special class teachers that provides professional support and expertise to new teachers. The special class teacher will work alongside one or more teaching assistants. Good collaboration and interaction skills are essential for success. The salary is in accordance with the OVTES agreement. The hourly rate for qualified special education teachers is €3,029.51–€3,243.27. Qualifications include the eligibility criteria for special class teachers (teaching staff qualification requirements, regulation no 986/1998). Certificates demonstrating qualification will be checked during the interview. In the absence of qualified applicants, other candidates will be considered. Priority will be given to laid-off or temporarily unemployed employees of the City of Kajaani who meet the qualification requirements. Basic education is part of the education sector, led by the head of the basic education results area, supporting unified practices and pedagogical development. A bilingual education program, launched in 2021, combines Finnish and English instruction, offering students strong language skills in both languages. The city also offers music, physical education, and mathematics classes, as well as various specializations and support forms, such as flexible basic education, preparatory education, and education for students with special needs.
