Job Description
The Data and Technology Department is responsible for tasks related to customs statistics, information services, ICT production and development, material services, and laboratory services. The Customs Laboratory unit handles laboratory investigations necessary for food and consumer goods surveillance, customs clearance, taxation, inspections, crime prevention, and other customs activities, as well as laboratory research and related expert tasks, laboratory operations development, and cooperation with authorities. The Customs Laboratory is an accredited testing laboratory T006 by FINAS, with accreditation requirement SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025. The position is within the Shared Services group of the Customs Laboratory. We are renewing our laboratory system and strengthening the organization with an expert in information systems and laboratory operations development. We are seeking to hire a Specialist Chemist for information system and operational development at the Customs Laboratory (customs inspector position) (Espoo) The duties include supporting the unit in preparing new development projects, defining operational needs, assessing change impacts, and conducting information risk and threat assessments. The person will gather and describe the unit’s system and operational needs for annual budgeting and prepare materials and presentations to support procurement for the management. An essential initial task is developing and testing the new laboratory data management system together with the project team, as well as training and guiding the use of information systems. Once the new system is established, integrating new laboratory techniques into the systems and maintaining them, including technical automation of equipment, will be key tasks. Additionally, the role involves troubleshooting related to laboratory application errors and issues. The person will independently produce and present ICT reports and situation updates regularly.
