Job Description
The project's goal is to strengthen reading skills and Finnish language proficiency among children and young people, especially immigrants, using engaging and inclusive methods. The project combines expertise from libraries, schools, and youth work, and develops new operational models for broader use in various libraries. The project targets children and young people in grades 4-7 in the Mukkula area of Lahti, where multilingualism and cultural diversity are prominent in daily life. Mukkula is a diverse and community-oriented neighborhood, where work with children and youth is particularly meaningful. The position is based at Mukkula Library in Lahti. As a project worker: - Plan, implement, and develop creative activities and methods to support reading skills - Work closely with local organizations in Mukkula - Organize activities during school hours and in leisure time - Involve children and young people in planning and implementing activities - Develop and test new, bold operational models through experimentation and learning - Organize a reading support day camp during spring 2027 - Actively communicate about the project through various channels - Document the operational models developed during the project We value: - Experience in promoting reading or in the library sector - Knowledge of youth work methods - Enthusiastic and experimental approach to work - Initiative and development-mindedness We offer: - Meaningful work to promote the well-being and equality of children and young people - Opportunities to develop new practices and influence their implementation - Support from a multidisciplinary and enthusiastic collaboration network - A varied and creative work environment
